Rooted in Connection Therapy
About
Our Practice Philosophy
Our clinic was founded on a simple but powerful belief: connection comes first. Built from a vision of providing compassionate, individualized care, we are committed to creating a welcoming space where every client feels seen, supported, and empowered on their communication journey.

Rooted in evidence-based practice and guided by a neuroaffirming, whole-person approach, we specialize in treating clients across the lifespan—embracing their strengths, honoring their identities, and meeting their needs with respect and empathy. Our team brings advanced training in areas such as Myofunctional Therapy, Sensory Integration, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), allowing us to deliver nuanced care that’s tailored to each individual.

We believe therapy is most effective when it’s collaborative, relationship-driven, and grounded in trust. Whether we’re supporting children, teens, or adults, our goal is always to foster growth through meaningful connection—not compliance.

Our clinic is more than a place for therapy—it’s a space where communication becomes empowering, differences are celebrated, and families feel truly understood. We’re here to walk alongside you, every step of the way.

Mission
Where Communication Grows Through Connection
At Rooted Connection Therapy, our mission is to empower individuals of all ages to communicate authentically, confidently, and joyfully. We provide strength-based, neuroaffirming speech-language therapy that honors the whole person—valuing connection over compliance and progress over perfection. Through individualized therapy, advocacy, and education, we aim to create inclusive spaces where communication is supported, autonomy is respected, and every voice is celebrated.

Kayla Obenour, M.S. CCC-SLP
Kayla is a passionate and experienced speech-language pathologist who brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and personal insight to her work. She holds both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Bowling Green State University and has served individuals across the lifespan in diverse settings—including schools (preschool through 12th grade), skilled nursing facilities, outpatient rehab, home health, private practice, and as a clinical supervisor at her alma mater.

As a speech therapist, special needs mom, and former speech therapy client herself, Kayla offers more than professional knowledge—she brings lived experience, deep empathy, and a heartfelt commitment to helping others feel heard, valued, and supported. Her journey navigating the healthcare system for her own daughter ignited a calling that led her to open her own private practice.
That practice later evolved into Rooted in Connection, a name inspired by her youngest daughter and the philosophy that now grounds her work.

At the heart of Kayla’s approach is a belief that communication should be authentic, empowering, and centered around the whole person—not just a diagnosis or set of goals. She is dedicated to providing strengths-based, neuroaffirming carethat prioritizes connection over compliance and honors the unique voice and identity of each individual.

Kayla has pursued specialized training in areas such as orofacial myofunctional therapy, Montessori-based approaches to dementia care, and neurodevelopmental conditions including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). She is especially passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals through respectful, inclusive practices that recognize and celebrate diverse ways of communicating.

Her dedication to professional growth has been recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) through the Award for Continuing Education (ACE)—earned multiple times for her commitment to lifelong learning and clinical excellence. Kayla was also honored with ASHA’s Distinguished Early Career Professional Certificate, which recognizes emerging professionals making meaningful contributions to the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology through leadership, advocacy, or volunteer work at the local, state, or national level. This distinction is awarded to clinicians within the first five years of practice or under the age of 30.

Whether you're a parent seeking support for your child, an adult navigating communication changes, or someone simply looking for a therapist who truly listens—Kayla is here to walk alongside you with compassion, expertise, and genuine care.
